Development of Dry Eye Questionnaire easy to use in Optical Shops

Abstract
|

|
Purpose: To develope an optometric questionnaire for the dry eye easy to use in optical shops when contact lens prescription by examining on the subjective symptoms.
Method: 163 university students were classified the dry eye and non-dry eye according to testing objective method (Tear Break-up Time; TBUT) and subjective survey method(McMonnies’-DEQ and TERTC-DEQ). If 14 kinds discomfort symptom may appear in the dry eye due to TBUT test that were investigated differ between dry eye and non-dry eye . The questionnaire for the dry eye easy to use by eye discomfort symptom were developed by these process.
Result: In the case of dry eye, 14 kinds of ocular discomfort symptoms can be divided into the four sub-factors due to ocular discomfort symptoms. First factor(foreign body sensation, itchy, gritty, dry of eye feeling, redness) of three or more symptoms appear, second factors(burning, soreness, sting), third factors(eye pain, light sensitivity, eye fatigue), fourth factors(eye fatigue, mucus discharge, vision disturbance) appear in more than one kind of each.
Conclusion: Our optometric questionnaire for dry eye diagnosis can easy to use without using special tool in optical shops. This will be useful to both optician and patient.
